Since the beginning of 2019, Charles Hill has an 11 from 62 record with his handicappers on their first start following a gelding operation for a profit of £28.50 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 7.47, A/E = 1.47). No less than 13 of the beaten horses finished second (another ten ran third or fourth) and an each-way approach is advised with SOLD THE DREAM, well drawn in stall 3 and a likely improver now gelded ahead of his handicap debut.

SPELL MASTER (system – Andrew Balding, second time out 2yos, beaten but ran within 10L of the winner on debut)
Andrew Balding’s juveniles usually need their initial outing and those who were beaten on their debuts but ran within ten lengths of the winner have a good record at the second time of asking. The master of Kingsclere has scored with 109 of the 455 qualifiers (24% strike-rate) for a profit of £63.39 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 88.98, A/E = 1.23). Those who debuted on turf showed a profit of £91.25 and SPELL MASTER, too green to do himself justice when a respectable 11-1 sixth at Newbury earlier this month, is likely to take a big step forward this evening.
