Manchester United remain confident they will keep Bruno Fernandes, amid fresh speculation over a summer transfer.
Bruno Fernandes Transfer News
Earlier in the year it was claimed that almost every United player would be up for grabs this summer, but we revealed that Fernandes was not one they were ready to lose.
The Portuguese midfielder is now being linked with Bayern Munich, as clubs around Europe sniff a chance to take advantage of United’s precarious state.
United have missed out on Champions League football for next season and Fernandes has warned the club that he needs to see new ambition if he is to stay at Old Trafford.
There is a belief within United that his desire is genuinely to stick with them and as such, there is intent to prove a point in the next transfer window.
United aim to sign players across defence, midfield and attack that will set them up for a brighter future and help to convince captain Fernandes that they can match his hopes and dreams.
But Bayern’s link to signing him is a new hurdle to overcome and it is expected that other clubs are also being sounded out now – as they are made aware of his personal aims and intentions.
Club sources are also not reading too deeply into the reports of German interest, as insiders claim to have belief they would not be looking to him as a prime target right now.
Fernandes met with United club officials at the end of the season, as the Portuguese midfielder outlined his desire for the club to kick on a level and was assured there is every intention to do so.
His current contract expires in 2026, with the option of a further year, and he would command a fee of around £80 million in the market.
He turns 30 next season and will be one of the most senior and experienced players in the squad as the likes of Rafael Varane and Casemiro depart.
United realise they would be losing more than just his technical ability, as he also has a strong bond with the fan base, and he could even land a new contract.
