Football fans will be scratching when they look at Sunday’s Premier League fixtures because of a very unusual schedule.
What is wrong with the Super Sunday schedule?
Manchester United v Liverpool is the first of two games that are scheduled in for the upcoming Super Sunday. The North-West derby kicks-off at 3:30pm instead of the usual 4:30pm slot.
This is because authorities believe it is best if the match gets underway at an earlier time to avoid crowd trouble. Lots of matches have been moved this season for this reason including Manchester City v Liverpool that was meant to be a 5:30pm game on a Saturday night but it got pushed up to 12:30pm.
Initially, there was only meant to be one game on Super Sunday with Tottenham v Nottingham Forest a Monday Night Football game but because of rail strikes, the game was moved up to accommodate to supporters.
Tottenham v Nottingham Forest will now kick-off at 6pm on Sky Sports Premier League following the Manchester United v Liverpool match.
Why are Sheffield United playing Chelsea on Sunday?
Sheffield United v Chelsea are also playing on Sunday but this match will not be televised. This match had a kick-off time of 1pm but it moved to 5:30pm because of the Sheffield half marathon taking place on Sunday morning. The council believes by pushing it back then the area will be less crowded and it’ll be more safe for supporters.
The game had initially been penned in for Saturday but because Chelsea played Manchester United on Thursday, it was moved to Sunday.
