Day one at the Cheltenham Festival was littered with fancied winners, including three trained by Willie Mullins and three market leaders rewarding favourite backers. As a result, one lucky Paddy Power punter managed to scoop £50k after finding six of the seven winners and then shrewdly cashed out before this final pick fell by the wayside.

With fancied horses flying in all over the place on the opening day of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival this has put the best UK betting sites on the backfoot early doors.
The biggest-priced winner on the Tuesday at Cheltenham was the Joseph O’Brien-trained Lark In The Mornin at 9/1 – but even that winner, in the ultra-competitive Boodles Handicap Hurdle, was well-supported – going off as the third favourite.
On the day, three hot-pot Willie Mullins runners in Lossiemouth, Gaelic Warrior and the Champion Hurdle winner State Man added to the bookies woes and things didn’t get much better when the well-fancied Corbetts Cross bolted up in the final race on the card – the NH Chase.
As a result, there were doubles, trebles and accas being collected all through the afternoon – including one lucky Paddy Power punter who landed £50k for a £20 e/w acca and £1 Super Heinz.
The Essex-based customer managed to find the opening six winners on the day one Cheltenham card with Slade Steel, Gaelic Warrior, Chianti Classico, State Man, Lossiemouth and Lark In The Mornin all hitting the mark.
Punter Cashes Out Before Embassy Gardens Loses
They were then left with Embassy Gardens in the final race (NH Chase), who was sent off as the 7/4 favourite, with the punter standing to win over £200k.
However, a shrewd judgement call saw them cashout the two bets for a £50k profit – which proved exactly the right thing to do with Embassy Gardens coming in a massive 17-lengths second to the eventual winner Corbetts Cross.
