Erik Ten Hag reached 100 games in charge of Manchester United at the weekend. There’s been plenty of ups and downs since he joined the club but how does he compare to previous Manchester United managers?
Ten Hag’s Manchester United start
In Ten Hag’s first season, Manchester United edged closer back to where they once were. They lifted the Carabao Carabao, reached the FA Cup final and got back into the Champions League.
However, this season has been a bit of a disaster for the Red Devils. They finished last in their Champions League group and currently sat in sixth in the Premier League – 11 points off the top four.
Ten Hag’s grasp on his future in Manchester is increasingly tenuous, with some reports even going as far as suggesting the new INEOS owners are allowing him just three matches to try and turn the ship around.
However, after reaching triple digits in the dugout, the records show Ten Hag in a positive light.
Ten Hag’s shocking 100 game record
Ten Hag’s win ratio in his first 100 games is solid, and perhaps the pressure from press isn’t warranted. He has lead Manchester United to 60 wins (L28 D12) out of 100 games.
He currently has the best win percentage out of any Manchester United manager post-World War 2. He is narrowly beating Sir Alex Ferguson, who had a 59.7% win record out of the 1500 games that he managed.
Sir Matt Busby had a win percentage of 51.4 out of 1141 matches.
How Does Ten Hag Compare to Other Manchester United Managers?
Other managers that are included in the top ten are Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Van Gaal managed Manchester United for 103 matches, and held a win percentage of 52.4%, which will be bested by Ten Hag.
It’s worthwhile comparing Ten Hag’s current reign to the newer managers. Since Ferguson, no Manchester United manager has made it to 200 matches. David Moyes only managed 52 games and had a 52.9% win record.
Mourinho managed to make the top three after 144 games in charge, rounding off his tenure with a 58.3% win record.
Solskjaer meanwhile had the longest reign post-Ferguson managing a 54.2% win ratio out of 168 matches.

When do Manchester United play next?
Manchester United will have to dust themselves off after their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. They will look ahead to their next game which is on Saturday (9th March).
They host struggling Everton and it’s a good opportunity for Ten Hag’s men to put the pressure on top four rivals Tottenham and Aston Villa. Those two play each other on the Sunday. The game will be broadcasted on TNT Sports with a 12:30pm kick-off.
