Manchester United have faced an alarming 99 shots in their past 5 Premier League matches, despite a good run of form.
It’s been an up-and-down season for Manchester United, injury crisis, rumours of player revolts and the emergence of young talents like Kobbie Mainoo have all contributed to the topsy-turvy campaign.
However, in recent weeks, the Red Devils seemed to have turned a corner. 5 wins on the bounce in all competitions and unbeaten in 5 Premier League games means Erik ten Hag’s side sit 5th in the Premier League table and are firmly back in the race for the top 4.
Recently, however, an alarming stat has emerged and it points to the fact that not everything is hunky-dory at Old Trafford.
Manchester United Face 99 Shots In 5 Games
Despite an improvement in results, in the past 5 Premier League games Manchester United have been on the receiving end of 99 shots. Let’s run through them.
Tottenham Hotspur – 16
In a crucial clash between Top 4 chasing rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, the Red Devils went in front early through the in-form Rasmus Hojlund.
However, for the remainder of the game, Spurs consistently broke through the Manchester United backline and peppered Andre Onana’s goal.
The game ended 2-2 but, after 16 shots, the north London club would have been wondering how they failed to take all 3 points.

Wolverhampton Wanderers – 16
Another crazy game, defined by Kobbie Mainoo officially announcing himself to the footballing world with his cool, calm and collected 97th-minute winner.
Manchester United were 3-1 up at one point during the game, but as Wolves turned the screw in the hope of finding a route back into the match, United’s defence crumbled.
The Midlands club ended up taking 16 shots and scored 3 goals, but it wasn’t enough for a point on the night, as the Red Devils ran out 4-3 winners.
West Ham – 22
Manchester United faced an out-of-kilter West Ham side at Old Trafford in this early February fixture, but somehow still conspired to face 22 shots.
Luckily for United fans, West Ham’s impotence in front of goal means they only managed 3 shots on target throughout the entire game and Manchester United ended the day as comfortable 3-0 winners.

Aston Villa – 23
After conceding two sloppy goals in their previous Premier League fixture against Villa on Boxing Day, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Manchester United would approach the game in a slightly more defensive manner.
However, they did not, and they ended up facing 23 Aston Villa shots throughout the game but somehow came away with all 3 points thanks to another crucial winner from, Mr. Clutch, Scott McTominay.
Luton Town – 22
Finally, and perhaps the most depressing indictment of where Manchester United are currently, is the fact they conceded 22 shots to Premier League strugglers Luton Town.
Erik ten Hag’s side took an early 2-0 lead following an impressive brace from Rasmus Hojlund before Carlton Morris pulled one back for Rob Edwards’ men.
What followed was somewhat of an onslaught from Luton, as United sat back and soaked up the pressure in the hope of nicking a goal on the break.
The game, somehow, ended 2-1 to Manchester United, as the Red Devils once again rode their luck to take the spoils.
