Liverpool 2-1 Luton Report: Reds Seal Comeback Win
Looking to sustain their lead at the top of the Premier League table, Liverpool hosted Luton on the back of a 4-1 thumping of Brentford, but things didn’t get off to an ideal start.
Luton took the lead at Anfield thanks to a header from Chiedozie Ogbene, who reacted quickest after Caoimhin Kelleher saved an shot from Tahith Chong.
The Hatters would lead at the break, but Jurgen Klopp‘s side were due a goal after dominating the first-half. Luis Diaz had a couple of good chances but couldn’t convert, and even Joe Gomez had an effort go close.
Liverpool started the second-half as they ended the first, pressuring the Luton defence. Their hard work was eventually awarded, and they would find a leveller on the 56th minute through captain Virgil van Dijk. Alexis Mac Allister swung in a corner, which was met by the towering Dutchman, making it 1-1.
The Reds were in dreamland just two minutes later as the game was turned in their favour. It was another assist for Mac Allister as he crossed the ball for Cody Gakpo, who headed in at the near post.
With the win in sight, Liverpool added a third on the 71st minute as Luis Diaz fired a shot beyond the Luton ‘keeper, to make it 4-1.
However, they weren’t finished there, Harvey Elliott scored late on to record back-to-back 4-1 victories.
The table toppers held on for the win, putting them four points clear of Manchester City in second. Luton remain in the bottom three.
