Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Tuesday: 2:10pm Taunton – IMPERIAL MEASURE
The Evan Williams-trained IMPERIAL MEASURE has some past form in the book to warrant respect here – especially with his last career win also coming on heavy ground.
However, that victory is his sole success from 12 starts and the worry would be that he also bled from the nose last time at Sedgefield. He finished way down the field that day (6th or 8) and despite connections giving him two months to get over that, it’s still a negative in my book.
He’s also been a beaten favourite now in his last two races and is only down a pound in the handicap from last time – meaning he’s still rated 6lbs higher than that win.
Yes, jockey Isabel Williams is able to claim a handy 3lbs too, but she’s also ridden the horse five times and is yet to manage better than fourth.
It also looks a race with several others with decent chances, so we’ll have at least six or seven horses running for us. These include King Of The Road from the in-form Ben Pauling team and Getuptheyard, from the Hawke camp who won this race last year.
The final plus for us is that the Evan Williams yard are only 8-from-109 with their runners at the moment at the track and 5-from-71 (7%) with their hurdlers.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.
If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
