12:05 JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle 2m1f: BURDETT ROAD at Evs with BetMGM

Burdett Road is one of the big fancies for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but will need to take this in order to remain on course for that Friday opener. This James Owen-trained 4 year-old will face his biggest test to date taking on another useful prospect in Sir Gino from the Nicky Henderson yard.

Burdett Road was a 100+ rated flat horse who has used that speed well over hurdles and remains unbeaten over the sticks with facile wins at Huntingdon and Cheltenham at the November Meeting. That track knowledge will be a big plus and he’ll be looking to get the Cheltenham accumulator tips off to a flyer.

Of course, some will do the acca with Sir Gino in too, while if punters fall at the first hurdle here – there are still three more Cheltenham bankers to reload with.

2:25 Clarence House Chase 2m½f: JONBON at 3/10 with BetMGM

The prices tell us that Jonbon is the biggest of the Cheltenham Trials Day bankers and really being rated a full 8lb higher than his nearest rival Editeur Du Gite, then it will be a big shock if he’s not winning here.

Another from the powerful Nicky Henderson yard and has been a Festival runner-up twice now – in the 2022 Supreme and the 2023 Arkle. A decent hurdler, but looking a better chaser and heads here 7-from-8 over fences with his latest success coming in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown over Christmas.

With regular riders Aidan Coleman and Nico de Boinville both on the sidelines, James Bowen steps in to ride the horse for the first time.

3:00 Unibet Hurdle 2m1f: LOSSIEMOUTH at 4/5 with BetMGM

Great to see the Unibet Hurdle back, or the International as it will still be known to many as. Yes, not the best of renewals, but full marks to the Willie Mullins yard as well for bringing over Lossiemouth.

Last year’s Triumph Hurdle winner makes the leap into open company so will face her biggest test and this will also be her first run back since winning at the Punchestown Festival in April.

However, this popular Rich Ricci-owned grey has a good record fresh and will come here having won five of her six hurdles runs, with her only blot coming at the Dublin Racing Festival a year ago (2nd).

Regular rider Paul Townend also comes over to ride and she’ll be on many people’s banker Trials Day shortlist before being targeted at the Mares’ Hurdle at the Festival in March.

4:10 SSS Super Alloys Novices’ Hurdle 2m4½f: GIDLEIGH PARK @ 4/5 with BetMGM

If the first three banker Cheltenham accumulator tips roll in, then the best online betting sites will be running for cover by the time we get to the final race.

Gidleigh Park is the big fancy that will be looking to bring home the accas and it’s hard to fault what he’s done to date. This Harry Fry runner is yet to taste defeat from three runs, with the last two over hurdles.

The most recent was an easy win at Chepstow – powering away by 9 lengths when upped in trip to 2m 4 1/2f for the first time. More is needed in this harder race, but being lightly-raced there should be a lot more to come and it’s no secret that connections think they might have a good one on their hands here.
