Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Tip On Wednesday: 3:25pm Lingfield – DIFFERENT BREED
The Simon Hodgson runner DIFFERENT BREED will have plenty of backers at Lingfield on Wednesday after a close neck second at Chelmsford earlier this month.
This 3 year-old colt was only just nabbed on the line that day in Class 5 Maiden and is also the more experienced in the race here with six career runs.
However, that experience hasn’t yielded a win yet, so is also a lot more exposed than the others and, therefore, would have some question marks to answer as to why he’s not won yet.
Jockey William Carver is replaced by the more experienced Trevor Whelan which may help, but that also means the horse doesn’t have a 3lb claim – like he’s had in three of his last four races.
The other worry for backers is the step back up in trip to 7f. He got caught over 6f last time, so has another furlong to last out here and has tried this distance twice before (2nd & 3rd), including here at Lingfield on New Year’s Eve. The concern would be that he’s just not finishing off his races that well and could be prone to an improver.
Finally, we’ll also have some big yards running for us, including Richard Hannon, Charlie Fellowes and Andrew Balding, who has a 26% return on his 3 year-olds at the Surrey track.
We’ve more horse racing free tips here – including our daily NAP of the Day and Lucky 15 selections.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.
If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
