Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Tip: 1:15pm Lingfield – MATATA
The Nigel Twiston-Davies runner MATATA is taken on at Lingfield on Sunday in what looks a tight little Novices’ Chase.
Just the five runners, but they all have cases, including the three recent winners in the field – Pembroke, Master Chewy and Djelo.
Matata will certainly have his supporters too after a facile chase win at Ffos Last in October and certainly wasn’t disgraced when second at Cheltenham last time out on New Year’s Day.
However, he’s up in grade here and taking on four other in-form rivals. But the main negative is the slight poor run of the Twiston-Davies yard at the moment – they’ve not had a winner in their last 13.
Plus, at the track they boast just a 6% SR with their runners (2-from-31), so at the prices and in a race that we’ll have four others with big chances running for us this NTD horse looks worth opposing.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.
If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
