Mohamed Salah To Take Saudi Arabia U-Turn As Liverpool Contract Extension Looks Imminent

According to Anfield Watch, Mohamed Salah is open to signing a contract extension for Liverpool instead of jetting off to Saudi Arabia.

Why has Salah had a change of heart?

Salah has never been determined to leave Anfield but he was open to a move to Al-Ittihad in the summer but Liverpool blocked all bids despite the Saudi Pro League club offering £150m for the 31-year-old.

Salah is very happy at Liverpool and beating records and climbing leaderboards is something that’s very important to him. He wants to become a Liverpool legend and he’s claimed that status already.

Salah’s current contract of around £350k a week at Anfield ends in 2025, but there is an ambition from Liverpool’s side to keep him at the club until retirement.

There is no specifics on the contract renewal as of yet.

Has this changed Liverpool’s transfer strategy?

Whilst this may cool interest off certain players from Liverpool, Salah will still be turning 32 in the summer so they will need to find a replacement at some point.

Salah’s form certainly doesn’t appear to be letting up though with 18 goals and nine assists already this season.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Kylian Mbappe but the Reds would have to sell Salah to afford Mbappe. Mbappe is just 24-years-old which would make it a long term investment for Liverpool if they did decide to go down that route.

What’s next for Salah?

Liverpool will be without Salah for 3-4 weeks as he departs to captain Egypt in the Africa Cup Of Nations. He was instrumental to Liverpool’s previous 4-2 win over Newcastle; scoring two and providing an assist. Salah’s goals helped him to climb into the top 10 of the Premier League all time goalscoring leaderboard; overtaking Michael Owen.

Salah will be hoping he can push Liverpool towards their second Premier League title when he returns from AFCON. Liverpool are currently league by three points over Aston Villa. Manchester City are lurking as they have a game-in-hand and sit five points behind Liverpool in 3rd.
