Real Madrid’s record signings are among some of the most expensive transfers in football history.
Los Blancos are the most successful side in UEFA Champions League history, winning it a record 14 times. They have also lifted La Liga in Spain 35 times – another record.
Real’s major honours put them firmly among footballing royalty, as quite possibly the biggest club in the sport.
That success has come with a hefty financial cost. When Florentino Pérez set out to create his “Galacticos” in the early 2000’s, it was obvious they would need to part with huge sums of money to recruit the game’s biggest and brightest stars.
But which Real Madrid signings were the most expensive in the club’s history? Read on to find out!
Real Madrid Record Signings
Among Real Madrid’s most expensive signings is Aurélien Tchouaméni. The French midfielder singed from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in 2022 for a fee of around £69 million.
Still only 23, the former Bordeaux man has made 66 appearances for Real, scoring once.
A world-record fee at the time, Cristiano Ronaldo’s £80 million move from Manchester United to Madrid in 2009 remains one of the biggest deals in football history.
The 38-year-old is still playing in Saudi Arabia, but totted up an incredible 450 goals and 131 assists in 438 games at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Another record was broken when Welsh winger Gareth Bale signed from Tottenham for £85 million – then a record for a British player.
Bale would enjoy a successful career with Madrid, and famously scored a bicycle kick in the 2018 Champions League final as Real beat Liverpool 3-1.
Was The Jude Bellingham Transfer Fee A Club Record?
But even Bale’s former British transfer fee record was eclipsed in recent years. One of several players to command a higher fee was Jude Bellingham.
The England international has been in sensational form since joining from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
But despite a transfer fee of £88 million – which could hit £114 million in add-ons – Jude Bellingham’s transfer fee was not a club record at Real Madrid.
How Much Was The Real Madrid Eden Hazard Transfer?
That honour goes, rather notoriously given his performances at the club, to Eden Hazard. The Belgian forward left Chelsea in 2019 for a monstrous fee of £99 million – a Real Madrid transfer record.
But with just seven goals in 76 appearances for Los Blancos, Hazard was released at the end of his contract last season.
He has since announced his retirement from football, at just 32 years old.
Real Madrid Transfer Rumours
As for those with the potential to break Real Madrid’s transfer record, there are a few names linked. Kylian Mbappe has been courted by Real for half his senior career, but appears to be staying at PSG for now.
Reports suggest he is happy to remain until the end of his contract, but doesn’t plan to sign a new deal.
There’s no doubt the Frenchman would command an astronomical fee if he were to leave the Parisian side this year. But it seems more likely he may join Real on a free transfer once his current deal expires.
A surprise link is the possibility of Manchester United offering Anthony Martial to Madrid. According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, United have suggested Martial as a short term replacement for Karim Benzema.
With a move for Mbappe unlikely for now, Martial has reportedly been offered on loan, with an option to buy for €15 million.
🚨⚪️ Real Madrid plan was not to sign any player in any position in January… but it could change after Alaba injury.

And a third Real Madrid transfer rumour doing the rounds currently involves an England international. Real are reportedly plotting a move for Chelsea captain, Reece James.
While injuries have hampered the 24-year-old’s Premier League career so far, he has impressed many at Real Madrid. But with him currently out for months following hamstring surgery, this deal would happen next summer, if at all.
