Andrew heads to Uttoxeter, Dundalk and Wolverhampton (AW) for three stats-based picks on Friday, December 22nd. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
UTTOXETER 1.05
AKENTRICK (systems – Tom Lacey, stable switchers & Tom Lacey, handicap hurdles)
Tom Lacey does well at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, scoring with 16 of the 69 qualifiers for a profit of £22.38 to the usual £1 stake. He also does extremely well with his handicap hurdlers, scoring with 122 of the 561 qualifiers (21.8%) for a profit of £134.98. AKENTRICK qualifies on both angles and looks worth a punt.
DUNDALK 4.25
BADDA BING (system – Andrew Slattery, second run since gelded)
Andrew Slattery has a good recent record with his runners on their second start after a gelding operation, scoring with seven of the 32 qualifiers since the beginning of 2019 for a profit of £29.25 to a £1 level stake at SP. At Dundalk only, the score is five from 12 (+£30.75) and BADDA BING, who took a big step forward when going down by six lengths in a 100-1 ninth of 13 over 7f here last time on his first run after gelding, might be able to sneak into the frame at a likely big price.
WOLVERHAMPTON 6.45
QUEEN MAKER (system – Richard Hannon, second time out 2yo, beaten when fancied on debut)
Richard Hannon has a solid record with second time out juveniles who were beaten when fancied (defined as starting in the front two in the betting) on their debuts. Since 2015, the yard is 45 from 154 on this angle (29.2% strike-rate) for a profit of £65.76 to a £1 level stake at SP. So far in 2023, this score is four from eight and perhaps QUEEN MAKER can push this year’s strike-rate beyond the 50% mark. The Cotai Glory filly was the 100-30 second favourite for her debut at Chelmsford last month but played up in the preliminaries and blew the start. She should know more tonight.
