Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane has called out Virgil van Dijk’s ‘arrogant’ comments following Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Van Dijk claimed that ‘there was only one team trying to win the game’ and pointed towards how happy Man United were with the draw.
The Liverpool captain said, “There was only one team trying to win the game, but unfortunately it did not happen. We were superior in all aspects. They were hoping to hurt us on the counter, and they are buzzing with a point.”
When the cameras returned to the studio, Roy Keane was quick to defend his former club. After hearing Van Dijk’s comments, Keane said,”He needs to remember Liverpool have only won one title in 30 years!”
Keane then labelled Van Dijk’s comments as ‘arrogant’, stating, “[United] are in a difficult place, like Liverpool were in a difficult place for many years. So maybe that bit of arrogance backfired on him today.”
“There’s a lot of arrogance coming out of him [van Dijk], dissing Manchester United like that.”
Keane continued, “He [van Dijk] said Man United were buzzing and one team came to play. Yeah, I’ve come to Anfield many times with Manchester United, where Liverpool were in a tough place and were happy with a draw.”
“He [Van Dijk] has to remember where he comes from. Just one title in 33 years?”

Despite Keane’s viewpoint, Jurgen Klopp will no doubt be disappointed with the draw at home. The Reds failed to score despite having 34 shots – the most by any team in a Premier League game this season. You can watch the highlights from the match here.
Arsenal’s win against Brighton earlier on Sunday means it’s the Gunners with the advantage heading into their blockbuster clash at Anfield next Saturday. Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the league, one point ahead of both Liverpool and Aston Villa and five ahead of Manchester City.
