Young Liverpool prodigy Ben Doak could be in line to start on Thursday as the Reds take on Union Saint-Gilloise in a dead rubber in the UEFA Europa League in Belgium.

Doak has featured twice in the competition, playing 61 minutes in the match day 1 victory over LASK before featuring again against Toulouse in a 3-2 defeat on match day 4.

Who Is Ben Doak?

Who is Ben Doak? The 18-year old Scottish winger has been with Liverpool since March 2022 when he joined from Scottish Premiership side Celtic for a £600k fee.

Doak is highly regarded at Anfield and boss Jurgen Klopp has given him just the one run out in the Premier League this season; the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the opening day.

He made his top-flight bow in a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day 2022 and he also featured in a 3-0 loss to Brighton in January 2023.

Classed as an understudy to Reds legend Mo Salah, Doak has been nicknamed the ‘Tasmanian Devil’ by centre-back Virgil van Dijk; owing to his pace and trickery as a winger.

If Doak does get his chance in Belgium on match day 6, he will be sure to excite the travelling Reds faithful and if he could get on the scoresheet, he could see his chances of featuring in future first-team games increase dramatically.

Internationally, Doak has impressed for the Tartan Army, scoring twice in seven outings for the U21’s and there’s no reason why he couldn’t force himself into Steve Clarke’s full senior squad.

Clarke’s side head to Germany in June 2024 to participate in the European Championship. If Doak impresses at club level, he could book himself a place in the final squad.

In order to do that, Doak will do his chances no harm at all if he impresses on match day 6 of the UEFA Europa League, with the best UK betting sites making the Reds 135/67 to win.
