Oscar Bobb scored a sensational goal on his full UEFA Champions League debut as Manchester City beat Red Star Belgrade 3-2, making it six wins from six in Group G.

Bobb was making his first start in Europe’s elite club competition and repaid the faith Pep Guardiola showed in him by netting a wonderful solo effort in the 62nd minute, and was also awarded the Player of the Match award.

The goal will come as a huge boost to City, who also witnessed a Micah Hamilton debut finish and an assist from Rico Lewis to put the spotlight firmly on their academy stars, but just who is Bobb?

Who Is Oscar Bobb?

Oscar Bobb was born in Oslo on July 12th, 2003 and has been with Manchester City since 2019. Prior to his move to the Etihad, Bobb was close to signing for Portuguese giants FC Porto. FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport blocked the move owing to issues with Bobb’s mother.

Nonetheless, Bobb impressed the City coaches during his time in the academy and youth teams and promptly caught the attention of senior boss Pep Guardiola, who named him on the bench in an FA Cup tie against Swindon in 2022. It wasn’t until September 2023 that the 20-year old made his Premier League debut against Fulham.

Bobb is a Norwegian international and already has a goal to his name, netting in a friendly against the Faroe Islands in November 2023. Overall, he has four caps to his name and has represented the Cityzens on nine occasions in 2023/24.

Oscar Bobb Stats Vs Red Star

There’s no denying that Oscar Bobb was the star of the show for Manchester City against Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League on match day 6. Not only did Bobb score his first City goal, he looked threatening yet composed throughout the match and has the stats to back this up.

Passing accuracy at 98%, 54 touches of the ball and 41/42 completed passes demonstrate just how good he was in the Serbian capital. He also provided one key pass and won over half of his ground duels. The pacey right-winger made a nuisance of himself all night.

Similar to full senior debutant Micah Hamilton, Bobb’s excellent display will be hard to ignore and he may well get a run out against Crystal Palace on match week 17 in the Premier League. The best UK betting sites make City the match favourites at 2/11, the draw is 7/1 and Palace can be backed at 18/1.
