Sheffield United vs Brentford Report: Chris Wilder Wins First Home Match Back As Manager
Saturday’s clash between Sheffield United and Brentford marked Chris Wilder’s first game back at Bramall Lane as manager. The Blades fell short against Liverpool despite an admirable effort, but were looking to bounce back against Thomas Frank’s side.
The first major talking point was Frank Onyeka escaping a VAR check for a crude foul on Vinicius de Souza Costa. The Brentford midfielder avoided having a yellow card turned into a red, despite seeming to catch his opponent with upraised studs with force.
On the stroke of half-time, James McAtee produced a wonderful curling effort from the right-hand side of the box and found the top corner to score his first goal of the season.
The second half was a turgid display from both sides, but despite late pressure from the Bees, Sheffield United held out to earn their second win of the season. The Blades remain at the bottom of the Premier League table, however.
As for Brentford, they have now lost three away games to teams starting the day in the relegation zone – one more defeat than they have away teams starting the day inside the top three (two).
