Jarred Gillett has yet to officiate an Arsenal game this season but he has taken charge of two Aston Villa fixtures in the Premier League. The most recent was the 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City ground in November. Gillett produced just the two yellow cards that day, with the first going to Villa’s Boubacar Kamara.
The other Villa fixture Gillett had the whistle for was their 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in September. The Australian ref issued five bookings that day and sent off the Blues Malo Gusto after 58 minutes for serious foul play.

Jarred Gillett has officiated six Premier League games this season with the most recent coming in Wolves’ 1-0 victory over Burnley on match week 15.
In terms of cards, Gillett has issued 28 yellows and one straight red card. He has also given one penalty, which was missed by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland against Sheffield United in August.

Premier League VAR Controversies 2023/24
Jarred Gillett – as a referee – hasn’t been involved in any major VAR controversies that have affected the outcome of any games this season but whilst acting as a VAR official, a few questions have arose.
When Arsenal played Manchester United in September, Gillett was selected as the VAR which was the third time in four games he had been given the duties with the Gunners involved.
Furthermore, he also failed to overturn Hwang Hee-chan’s foul against Newcastle in October which resulted in a penalty that was converted by Callum Wilson.
The only minor concern that came Gillett’s way whilst officiating was when former Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom fumed about a decision to award Manchester City a penalty. Erling Haaland missed from 12 yards so in theory, no real damage was done.
However, with 3rd-placed Aston Villa playing 1st-placed Arsenal in a huge top of the table clash on Saturday, Gillett and his officials will need to be at their very best to avoid being the talk of the game.
