Pep Guardiola took a swipe at Jamie Carragher over he supposedly criticised his Manchester City team over being ‘complacent’ in their 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
What did Guardiola say about Carragher?
In his press conference after the game, Guardiola took aim at Carragher and other Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards over their lack of title success compared to his current Manchester City side. This came after the two questioned the mentality within the Manchester City team after winning the treble.
Guardiola responded: “Gary Neville knows how difficult it is, otherwise he would have won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Manchester United,” said the Man City boss. “But he didn’t do it. Maybe they accuse us of complacency because they felt complacency (at United). Maybe they felt it. This team so far, no chance.
“Jamie Carragher didn’t win one (title). Micah Richards didn’t win four Premier Leagues in a row. Never, ever. It’s never happened.
“I don’t have anything to say about the pundits, honestly. It’s not about that (complacency). Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think it’s about complacency.”
What did Carragher respond?
Whilst others remained quiet, Carragher immediately took to social media to fire back at the Manchester City manager.
He responded to The Telegraph’s post on X that were using Guardiola’s comments. He said: “I think I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times!
“I was actually praising Pep’s team after the game on Sunday.”

This is a vicious attack regarding Manchester City who are currently under investigation of committing 115 breaches of Financial Fair Play. We recently saw Everton get deducted 10 points for committing the same offence. City’s fate will be decided by next year.
