Use our key horse racing trends to help find the 2023 Sandown Tingle Creek Chase winner. Where all eyes will be on the red-hot favourite Jonbon as he looks to give trainer Nicky Henderson his third win in the big December Grade One race on Saturday.Â
Tingle Creek Chase Trends 2023: Are There Any Stats Against Jonbon?
Just a handful of Tingle Creek Chase runners for the 2023 renewal at Sandown on Saturday and the race revolves around one horse – Jonbon.
This Nicky Henderson entry is the big favorite with the best UK horse racing betting sites and it’s easy to see why. Jonbon has won six of his seven chase starts to date and the last of those came only month with a facile win in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham (watch below).
His only blot over fences came with a second in the Arkle Novices’ Chase at the Festival back in March and being rated 170 is five pounds clear of the second highest horse – Edwardstone, who heads here as the current Tingle Creek Champion.
The Tingle Creek Chase is also a race the Paul Nicholls yard have a top record in with 12 wins, including six in back-to-back years between 2005 and 2010. However, the great news for the other jumping yards is that the Ditcheat handler doesn’t have a runner in 2023.

So, to help find the winner or hunt out a few stats that might be against Jonbon – we’ve listed the key Tingle Creek Chase trends below.
Tingle Creek Chase Trends Give The Favourite a 57% Chance
If you go back 21 runnings of the Tingle Creek Chase this will tell you that 57% (12) of favourites have won the big Sandown Park race.
This is the first plus for Jonbon backers, while 67% of those 21 winners also returned 5/2 or shorter – which the Nicky Henderson horse will be.
76% of the last 21 Tingle Creek winners were also aged between 5-8 years-old, another plus for the 7 year-old Jonbon. While winning last time out, running in the last four weeks and being a past Grade One chase winner are other pluses the Henderson horses ticks.
French bred horses have also won 15 of the last 21 and, you guessed it – Jonbon also originated in France.
There is a final bit of good news for Jonbon fans, which makes him virtually bombproof based on the stats.
The horse is also 2-from-2 at Sandown, having won the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase on this card last season and the bet365 Celebration Chase back in April.
Past Tingle Creek Chase Winners Have A Good Record
If last year’s winner Edwardstone runs, then he’s likely to be Jonbon’s main threat. Past winners have a good record in the Sandown race too, with six double winners since 2001. These include Moscow Flyer, Kauto Star, Twist Magic, Master Minded, Sire De Grugy and Politologue.
Plus, even before those, Waterloo Boy, Sound Man and Flagship Uberalles were other repeat winners to back up that the Tingle Creek Chase has been kind to past champs over the years. This might give Jonbon haters something to get stuck into.
However, overall, there isn’t much to cling to, based on the Tingle Creek Chase trends, if you are looking to take Jonbon on this Saturday.
This exciting JP McManus-owned chaser is fully expected to land the odds and continue his charge towards his main target later in the season – the 2024 Queen Mother Champion Chase on 13th March.
The only slightly surprising Tingle Creek Chase stat is that trainer Nicky Henderson, who has had many top 2m chasers over the years, has only won the race twice. These came with Sprinter Sacre in 2012 and Altior in 2018.
