Newcastle United will be aiming to make it six home wins on the bounce as they entertain Manchester United this weekend. The Magpies have been in red-hot form at St James’ Park, scoring 12 goals and conceding just once across those games.
The Red Devils are looking for their fourth consecutive Premier League victory after seeing off Everton, Luton and Fulham in recent weeks without shipping a single goal.
Rob Jones has been announced as the Newcastle vs Manchester United referee and he will be assisted by Lee Betts and Timothy Wood, while Graham Scott will act as fourth official. VAR duties fall to Michael Salisbury and Ian Hussin.

Has Rob Jones Refereed Newcastle Or Man Utd This Season?
Rob Jones has refereed Newcastle just once in the Premier League this season, which came in the Magpies 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on match week 2. Julian Alvarez scored the winner at the Etihad that day with Jones issuing six yellow cards; five of which were shown to Eddie Howe’s side.
Manchester United are yet to have Jones officiate a top-flight fixture this season but ironically, Jones was the man in the middle when the two sides met at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup in November. Newcastle ran out comfortable 3-0 winners that night with Jones showing six yellow cards.
Ahead of the match, the best UK betting sites make Newcastle the match favourites at 19/20, with the draw 14/5 and Manchester United at 3/1.

Rob Jones Premier League VAR Controversies 2023/24
Rob Jones’ main VAR controversy this season came in the September’s north London derby at the Emirates. Jones awarded a penalty to Arsenal after the VAR overturned his original decision not to give it for a Cristian Romero handball from a Ben White shot. Bukayo Saka went on to score from 12 yards.
More recently, Jones came under fire when he gave Sheffield United an injury time penalty in their 2-1 victory over Wolves at Bramall Lane. Fabio Silva was adjudged to have fouled George Baldock and Jones pointed to the spot. The VAR reviewed the decision and agreed with Jones’ original decision. Oliver Norwood thundered home the winning goal.
