Newcastle United looked set to take home three points from Paris, until a Tino Livramento handball decision halted them. Social media were shocked at the Newcastle PSG refereeing decision.
The Magpies looked set to claim three points and put their knockout fate in their hands. However, a refereeing decision spoiled that and it’s a decision that hasn’t gone down well.

Newcastle looked like they were going to claim the win, but a late penalty decision ruined that. A Livramento handball was judged to be a penalty, despite the ball coming off his chest and hitting his elbow.
The decision was confirmed by VAR which has sparked more debate about its place in the game.
Szymon Marciniak’s decision to award a penalty for Tino Livramento’s alleged handball is daylight robbery and absolute nonsense.
The ball had firstly bounced off Tino’s abdomen and only then hit his elbow.

Kylian Mbappé, would hadn’t had the best game up to that point, calmly slotted home the penalty to level the game and break Newcastle hearts.
The draw means Newcastle are third in their Champions League group and will need to at least draw with AC Milan to secure a Europa League spot. If they win, and PSG lose to Dortmund, they’ll finish second and progress to the knockout stages.
How Has Social Media Reacted To The Newcastle PSG Refereeing Decision?
With the decision possibly costing Newcastle their spot in the knockout stages, there has been outrage on social media from fans across the board.
Football pundit, Stephen Warnock, posted about the Newcastle PSG referring decision, saying:
“How is that a penalty? Shambles of a decision, it hits Livramentos chest then arm! VAR at its worst again. #PSGNEW”
Editor at ESPN, Dale Johnson, said:
“UEFA’s interpretation of handball really is laughable. Absolutely no way that’s given in the Premier League. Off the chest and onto the elbow with the arm in a normal position. Not above the head / unexplainable by body position. And advised by the VAR, too… #PSGNEW”
