Lewis Dunk was given a red card in Brighton’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon for dissent, becoming the first player to receive it for such offence in 12 years.
Lewis Dunk Red Card Given Due To Dissent
Premier League officials have clamped down on punishment for lack of respect this season, becoming far more stricter and Anthony Taylor showed exactly that on Saturday.
While it is not yet known exactly what Dunk said to Taylor, the referee deemed that it was an aggressive enough reaction worthy of a sending off, with the Brighton captain now set to serve a three-match suspension.
The Seagulls were 3-1 up at the time it happened after Forest were awarded a penalty. Dunk intervened and appeared to hurl foul and abusive language towards Taylor who first gave him a yellow card, then a red card just 30 seconds later. Jack Hinshelwood clipped the heels of Callum Hudson-Odoi in the box, with VAR confirming the decision.

Morgan Gibbs-White cooly converted the spot-kick, but Brighton were able to hold on for a 3-2 win and claim their first league win since September 24th when they beat Bournemouth 3-1.
Forest actually took the lead early on through Anthony Elanga, before a goal from Evan Ferguson and a brace from Joao Pedro turned the game around for the visiting Seagulls. Despite their poor run of form in the league of late, Roberto De Zerbi‘s side remain around 2/1 to finish in the top six with the best UK football betting sites.
Lewis Dunk Given First Red Card For Dissent In 12 Years
The Brighton captain was the first player to be sent off for dissent in the top flight since Lee Cattermole was dismissed by Mike Dean in 2011 when he was playing for Sunderland.
Speaking after the match, the Seagulls coach had his say on the incident: “I am not a policeman, I am a coach.
“He (Lewis Dunk) said he was sorry. He understood he had made a mistake.”
