Owners Amo Racing have a great record with newcomers, regardless of who trains them, scoring with 40 of the 176 qualifiers (22.7%) for a profit of £42.98 to a £1 level stake at SP. Roger Varian’s Galileo colt MR HAMPSTEAD, who cost $575,000 as a yearling, is taken to make a winning start to his career.
NEWCASTLE 3.40
POCKLEY (system – Linda Perratt, all-weather)
So far this year, Linda Perratt has sent out 13 winners from 33 runners on the all-weather for a profit of £74.04 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who had raced at least twice in the previous three months were 13 from 24 for a profit of £83.04. POCKLEY won narrowly over course and distance ten days ago to take his record in November/December to 172121531 (4-9) and might be able to follow up despite a tricky stall 2 draw.
WOLVERHAMPTON 6.00
DUNSTAN (system – Ralph Beckett, second run in a nursery)
Ralph Beckett’s DUNSTAN was a disappointment on his nursery debut, finishing ninth of 11 in first-time blinkers at Newmarket but the step back up in trip could suit, he’s well drawn in stall 4 and, in the past ten years, his yard is 18 from 75 (24%) with horses having their second run in a nursery for a profit of £32.08. Those who ran on the all-weather were nine from 24 (37.5%, +£26.33).
WOLVERHAMPTON 7.30
POWER OF DARKNESS (system – Power, Wolverhampton)
Progeny of the sire Power have a 25 from 155 record on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface for a profit of £94.22 to a £1 level stake at SP, suggesting that POWER OF DARKNESS could break his all-weather duck on his course debut. The Charlie Fellowes-trained veteran has placed on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface the last twice and his forcing style will be better suited to Dunstall Park.
