Tottenham’s Title hopes Take Huge Blow

Tottenham vs Chelsea is always a cracker in the Premier League and this weeks edition was no different, with one of the most exciting games of the season taking place on Monday night.

The first half was filled with drama from the off and as the whistle blew at the end of the first 45 there was four disallowed goals, a red card shown and four yellows in a thrilling period of football.

It was Spurs who took the lead early on, with Dejan Kulusevski striking a heavily deflected shot past Robert Sanchez to give the hosts an early advantage.

However things only went downhill for spurs after they scored, with VAR controversy surrounding the next ten minutes of play to completely change the shape of Tottenham’s season.

Moises Caicedo thought he had the equaliser for the visitors with just under half an hour on the clock, but a VAR decision wiped out the goal with Nicolas Jackson impeding the goalkeeper’s view and instead, Michael Oliver gave Chelsea a penalty as well as a Cristian Romero red card for reckless play.

Cole Palmer converted a clinical penalty off the post to finally equalise for Chelsea, who were well and truly in the driving seat as half time rolled round.

To add to Tottenham’s misery, concerning injuries to Micky Van De Ven and James Maddison before half time will certainly give Ange Postecoglou plenty to think about in the coming weeks, as both looked in serious pain as they trudged off the field.

Destiny Udogie failed to keep his head at the beginning of the second half, with the Italian lucky to still be on the pitch after a two-footed challenge in the first half. Udogie was shown a second yellow for another poor challenge on Sterling after just under 55 minutes played, with Tottenham forced to play the last half an hour with just nine men.

Chelsea struggled to put away their chances throughout the second half, with Tottenham’s high line leaving them constantly exposed to swift attacks from the Blues.

Jackson finally gave the Blues a deserved lead deep into the second half, as Sterling broke through on goal and squared the ball to his strike partner to surely seal the game for Chelsea.

Eric Dier scored minutes later for Tottenham, but his goal was quickly ruled out to make it five disallowed finishes on Monday night, in what was one of the craziest Premier League games of the season to date.

Jackson well and truly put a seal on the game deep into added time, with two quick goals to complete his first Chelsea hat trick from close range in the space of five minutes.

Both sides will need plenty of time to recover after the crazy game, with Tottenham dropping to second in the league after the loss and Chelsea rising up the table to 10th.

Tottenham face Wolves in the early kick off next Saturday, while Chelsea wait until Sunday to play the champions and current league leaders Manchester City.
