Vauban The Clear Melbourne Cup Favourite
The Willie Mullins-trained Vauban is this year’s Melbourne Cup favourite and it is very hard to oppose the Irish raider. This five-year-old has been running on the flat this summer and won top contests at Royal Ascot (see below) and Naas in the process.
Also, Vauban is a Cheltenham Festival hero, having won the 2022 Triumph Hurdle, so he knows all too well about winning top races.
The Rich Ricci-owned horse stormed home by seven and a half lengths in the Copper Horse Handicap at Ascot in June before winning the Group Three Ballyroan Stakes on his return to Ireland when seen last.

With four wins from six runs on the flat, connections will be confident Vauban can produce a career best effort for a race that he has been kept fresh for since August. He’s the Melbourne Cup favourite for a reason.
Ryan Moore will return to the saddle, after lifting him to victory at Ascot a few months back. Moore won this race in 2014 on Andreas Wohler’s Protectionist and is in good form having won two races at the Breeders’ Cup over the weekend.
