GLADYS EVA JANE (system – Jake Coulson stable switchers)
Jake Coulson has a good record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards, scoring with five of the 42 qualifiers for a mammoth profit of £170.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Plenty of the beaten horses made the frame, including a 150-1 runner-up at Huntingdon last month. GLADYS EVA JANE won’t be anything like that sort of price (9-1 at the time of writing) but looks very interesting on her first start since leaving Peter Bowen. VORASHANN (ex-Gary Moore) also qualifies on this system in the 12.35.
STRATFORD 2.55
SMART CASUAL (system – Anthony Honeyball, first run in a handicap hurdle)
Anthony Honeyball has a fine record with his handicap hurdle debutants, scoring with 29 of the 112 qualifiers (25.9%) for a profit of £85.83 to the usual £1 stake. Only five of those were owned by J P McManus and three of them won (10-1, 7-1 and 15-8), suggesting that SMART CASUAL could take a big step forward on his handicap debut. He faces a tough rival in the shape of KING OTIS but can be backed each-way at 4-1 or bigger.
