Under pressure Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly forced his Manchester United players to listen to Manchester City celebrations following derby day defeat on Sunday.

What Happened During The Manchester United Vs. Manchester City Game?

Having struggled with injuries and disciplinary issues all season, Erik Ten Hag’s team arrived at Old Trafford on Sunday off the back of three consecutive wins.

However, any shred of hope for United fans was stripped away in the 26th minute after Rasmus Højlund manhandled City midfielder Rodri in the penalty area.

The incident initially went unnoticed, but VAR intervened and the spot kick was awarded. Goal-machine Erling stepped and dispatched the penalty leaving Manchester United facing an uphill battle.

Erik ten Hag made a positive change at the break in the form of Mason Mount for Sofyan Amrabat but following another goal from Haaland and one from Phil Foden the game was all but done, eventually finishing 3-0 to Manchester City.

United Players Forced To Listen To City Celebrations

The defeat marked United’s seventh defeat in just 14 games across all competitions this season, proving to be their worst start to a season since 1986-87, which culminated in Ron Atkinson’s sacking on November 6.

According to The Sun, furious following his side’s feeble performance against their bitter rivals, Erik ten Hag forced his players to sit in silence in the dressing room so they could soak in the Manchester City celebrations across the tunnel.

In the wake of his side’s dreadful start to the season, the Dutch coach is now 8/11 to be sacked by the end of 2023 and after the game ten Hag admitted that his Manchester United team will never be able to play like his former Ajax side.

“We will never play the football we played at Ajax here. I now have other players, that’s not why I came here” he told ViaPlay after the defeat.

“The player material you have determines how you will play. That’s why we play here in a different way than I did at Ajax. That will have to be the case, because I can’t play the same way here.”

Manchester United face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup round of 16 on Wednesday night, in what now looks like a must-win game for the Red Devils.
