Why is Man Utd vs Man City kicking off at 3:30pm on Sunday?

The situation the sides find themselves in is very unique. Sunday’s later Premier League match usually gets underway at 4:30pm, but this weekend is different with United and City’s clash getting underway at 3:30pm.

But how come? The derby is kicking off an hour earlier due to an agreement between the two clubs and United released a statement following the change.

It read: “The unusual start time was agreed following consultation between the clubs, the broadcaster and local authorities.”

There was no specific reason as to why the game had been moved forward an hour, other than an agreement had been made between the clubs.

Both sides come into the game after recording successive victories in the Premier League and Champions League, so are in good form.

United beat Sheffield United last Saturday before a 1-0 win over Copenhagen in Europe on Tuesday night. As for City, they were impressive 3-1 winners over Brighton last weekend before they beat Young Boys in Switzerland on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be keen to avoid defeat after losing two of their last three league matches as they look to keep up with fellow title challengers Arsenal and Tottenham.

Meanwhile Erik ten Hag’s side have picked up their form in recent weeks and will hope to keep the momentum flowing in search for a fourth straight win.
