This Godolphin runner was a very promising third at York the last day – third and beaten just 2 3/4 lengths. Ran on really well that day – doing his best work at the finish, which suggests the penny was starting to drop in the closing stages. He’s also out just 10 after that race, which further backs this up and the Gosden yard have a 25% strike-rate at the course with their 3 year-olds.
EACH-WAY: 3:15 Plumpton: HOBSONS BAY 9/2
The Nigel Hawke yard have a decent 20% strike-rate with their hurdlers at Plumpton and it’s interesting they run two here – Milton Boy and Hobsons Bay. Both are respected but the latter is the shorter-priced runner of his pair and now handicapping looks worthy of support. This 5 year-old is yet to win a race over any code but has shown some ability on the flat. Yes, he’s not fired over the sticks of yet from three runs but is now into a handicap with a mark and that will help in what also doesn’t look the best of races. Better expected.
LAY OF THE DAY: 7:10 Wolverhampton: ISLAND NATIVE 6/4
This Heather Main runner has been knocking on the door in recent runs, but it’s still hard to ignore their runner here is 0-from-10 and has been a beaten favourite the last twice – including here at Wolverhampton the last day. Off the same mark today as last time and even though the first-time cheekpieces are reached for this time, that could also be a sign connections are running out of ideas. Yes, top jockey Oisin Murphy rides for the first time, but add in a wide draw (11) to his winless record, then he looks poor value at the prices.
