Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has sent a clear message to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, encouraging the goalkeeper to work harder to regain his place in the team.

The England international recently lost his starting position to former Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League clash with Chelsea, Arteta acknowledged Ramsdale’s frustration about his situation. However, the manager stressed the importance of every player giving their best and working diligently in training. He said, “It’s not easy for any player who’s not playing as much as they’d like. The only way to do it is work harder, and when you get the opportunity, do your best.”

Arteta also touched on the issue earlier this season, stating, “I understand [his frustration], and it’s very difficult for every player. He’s been very supportive and good around the place, and that’s what I expect from every single player because when you’re on the field, there is someone else who’s not, so it works both ways.”

Ramsdale has been an exceptional character and brings charisma to the team, according to Arteta. However, the manager emphasised the necessity of selecting a lineup that is best prepared for each game.

Both Ramsdale and Raya have played four league matches each now, with Raya being the preferred choice since starting against Everton in September. Each has spoken about their professional relationship, echoing similar words. They’ve explained that they push each other every day in training and pick each other up when one is feeling down.

Ramsdale recently expressed his determination to reclaim his spot in the Arsenal starting XI, with the ultimate goal of returning to the England national team.

Arsenal fans will be watching closely to see how Ramsdale responds to Arteta’s call for increased effort and dedication. They face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, aiming to continue their unbeaten start in the Premier League.
