Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, has revealed his stance on a potential boxing match between Wayne Rooney and Jake Paul at Old Trafford.

The British boxing promoter was a guest on the Sky Sports YouTube show ‘Stick To Football’, alongside Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott.

During the episode, the group spoke about various topics including, Anthony Joshua, Katie Taylor and a possible boxing union. However, one topic that has caught the most attention was the rise in crossover boxing.

Most recently the phenomenon of crossover boxing brought us KSI vs Tommy Fury, with Fury winning a controversial decision. But many boxing purists have been sceptical due to the lack of quality on display.

Hearn, who has promoted a ‘YouTube/Crossover’ boxing event, being the lead promoter for KSI vs Logan Paul, admitted to making a ‘fortune’ from it all and that being the key driving point.

This lead to a conversation about the possibility of future crossover events and in particular, Wayne Rooney fighting YouTube star, Jake Paul.

Jake Paul, brother to the previously mentioned Logan, has been on a meteoric rise in the world of boxing and has caused quite a stir with the enthusiasts.

The American has beat a host of professional MMA fighters, including Ben Askren,  Tyron Woodley x2, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz.

Boasting over 50m followers across all social media, the 25-year-old is now one of the biggest names within the sport and Hearn jokingly spoke over a fight with Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford

Hearn said: “After every big fight, especially a YouTube one, I get a message from Wayne Rooney and I actually said to Wayne, he had a good amateur pedigree and the shape he’d get in as well. Imagine Wayne Rooney vs Jake Paul at Old Trafford.”

Jake Paul is set to return to the boxing ring before the end of the year, after MVP Promotions announced he will be fighting on December 15th this year – with an opponent still to be announced.
