Manchester City and West Ham are both reportedly interested in signing Chelsea youngster, Ian Maatsen, if the Dutchman does not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Both sides are keen on acquiring the former Burnley loanee’s signature next summer, but on the premise that Maatsen does not extend his contract with the Blues.

The 21-year-old has played just 83 minutes in the Premier League this season under Mauricio Pochettino, despite appearing six times.

Previously, the Dutch defender had been on loan to Burnley during their Championship title winning season, where he contributed to 10 goals in 39 league appearances.

Many expected Maatsen to feature heavily in Chelsea’s opening stage of the campaign, especially with the persistent injuries too Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

His deal at Stamford Bridge expires June next year and given his lack of minutes so far, the full-back could be seeking a new challenge in the summer , as he would be available on a free deal – something that has attracted Man City and West Ham.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently in their worst run of form since the Spaniard took over in 2017, losing consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since 2018.

Rodri’s suspension against Nottingham Forest has impacted the blue side of Manchester heavily, losing to Wolves and Arsenal in consecutive league fixtures.

In contrast, West Ham have made one of their strongest ever opening to a Premier League campaign, beating the likes of Chelsea, Brighton and Sheffield United.

The Hammers sit 7th in the table and are just three points from Liverpool in fourth, while also remaining undefeated in the Europa League.

Maatsen may prefer a move to West Ham, as he is likely to feature far more than he would in Manchester, however, Guardiola’s side have been undeniably attractive for players over recent years.
