Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has revealed that it’s ‘quite likely’ that an extension clause in his contract will be activated, and that he ‘absolutely’ wants to remain at Old Trafford despite previously being linked with a move away from the club.
Sweden international Victor Lindelof has revealed that a one-year extension clause in his Manchester United contract will ‘quite likely’ be activated, and that he ‘absolutely’ wants to remain at the club despite being tipped to depart.
The ex-Benfica defender was one of several members of Erik ten Hag’s squad linked with an exit last summer, but he remained at Old Trafford beyond the window and has made the joint-second most amount of appearances for the club this season amid their injury concerns.
Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia have all struggled with injuries throughout the early stages of the campaign, which has seen Lindelof start seven matches across all competitions in both central defence, and in left-back.
It’s been a strong start to 2023/24 season for the 28-year-old in terms of minutes, and currently away on international duty, he revealed that he expects his stay with the Red Devils will be extended.
“I have an option in my Manchester United contract until 2025 and there is a deadline for it – feels quite likely that it will be activated.” he revealed.
“Continue at United? Absolutely. I enjoy myself very much. It’s a club that I really like, and that I love to represent. We will see.”

Despite Lindelof being confident of a contract extension, Ten Hag is reportedly still looking to sign defensive reinforcements in January, and in the summer.
News broke last week that United were keen on a move for Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi, meanwhile Harry Maguire revealed that he’s ‘not playing anywhere near enough’ under Ten Hag.
The Red Devils return to action after the international window on Saturday evening, when they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, followed by a Champions League clash against Copenhagen at Old Trafford.
