Ipswich Town
Are Ipswich Town on course for back-to-back promotions? Only three teams over the past 30 years have followed the immediate path from League One, to the Championship and finally onto the top-flight.
Kieran McKenna’s men are very easy on the eye, deploying a 4-2-3-1 formation and a style which promotes high-pressing and control high up the pitch.
It sees them all the way up in second in the Championship after 11 games having scored 25 goals so far – two more than league leaders Leicester.
West Ham
West Ham’s commendable start continued prior to the international break, as they consolidated their spot in the Premier League top seven thanks to a late Mohammed Kudus equaliser against Newcastle.
It now means the Hammers are just three points off the top four, having found their shooting boots in each of their eight games so far.
They look reinvented and rejuvenated despite fears over how they would cope post-Rice, but Jarrod Bowen’s return to form (five goals) and the addition of James Ward-Prowse (three assists and two goals) has quickly suppressed any worries.
Brighton
The Premier League’s most fruitful team in front of goal with 21 goals, Brighton look well on their way to another memorable season near the top.
The Seagulls have scored three or more goals in half of their league fixtures this season, and Roberto De Zerbi’s relentless pursuit for an attractive brand of football has seen them break new ground in Europe.
Liverpool
Second only to Newcastle in terms of the highest xG in the Premier League this season, Liverpool look primed and ready for a return to the title race.
Much like Brighton, they too have found the net three times in a single game in half of their fixtures.
Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou’s imprint can not be underplayed – he has transformed this Tottenham team into an incomparable unit compared to last season.
The addition of James Maddison was vital. He is the creative outlet, the epicentre for things going forward, and perhaps the embodiment of the way Postecoglou chooses to play.
They head into the international break as table toppers having scored 18 goals across their eight games.
Arsenal
Last, but by no means least, we have Tottenham’s North London neighbours Arsenal.
For all the noise surrounding the Gunners and their renewed push to challenge Manchester City, they have done a mightily good job to block it out.
Although they only rank seventh in terms of most goals scored, they possess the joint-best defensive record alongside City.
