Out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, is reportedly set to leave the club this January and has attracted interest from a variety of Premier League sides.

The Englishman could be on his way out of the Etihad, after failing to impress Pep Guardiola since signing from Leeds in the summer of 2022.

During this time, Phillips has made just 26 appearances and played little to no part in Manchester City’s historic treble last season.

Starting midfielder Rodri has been suspended for Manchester City’s last three matches, after receiving a red card at home to Nottingham Forest. In these fixtures, Guardiola’s side have failed to register a victory and suffered two consecutive Premier League defeats for the first time since 2018.

This not only highlights how important the Spaniard is, but also how Kalvin Phillips has struggled, so much so that the City manager did not start him in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

With this unsettled situation, Phillips is set to move elsewhere this summer and has attracted the attention from other Premier League sides – including Newcastle and Everton.

The Magpies have enjoyed a steady start to the campaign, despite losing three of their opening five matches. A win over PSG in the Champions League has lifted things on Tyneside and Eddie Howe could add Phillips to his side, as fixtures will build up quickly.

Everton, on the other hand, are set to be in and amongst a relegation battle for the third consecutive season, winning just two from their opening eight matches.

Phillips’ future at Manchester City took a hit earlier in the campaign, as Guardiola admitted the England international has struggled to adapt since signing from Leeds.

Guardiola said: “I’d love to have done with Kalvin what Marcelo Bielsa has done to him. We have our own specific way to play and he sometimes struggles in a few things, while the previous Leeds playing style was perfect for him.”
