Bukayo Saka will miss Arsenal’s decisive matchup with Manchester City on Super Sunday at the Emirates due to a muscle injury suffered in midweek.

The 22-year-old was forced off in the 34th minute of Arsenal’s 2-1 loss in the Champions League against Lens on Tuesday due to a muscular problem.

Despite stunning the press on Friday by suggesting the England international could start against City, Mikel Arteta will not have his main man for the clash.

Saka’s club-record 87 consecutive Premier League appearances comes to an end, which was the longest ongoing run in the competition dating back to May 2021 against Newcastle.

Instead, Gabriel Jesus takes his position on the right wing with Eddie Nketiah through the middle and Leandro Trossard off the left.

It doesn’t look like a long-term issue, with Arteta saying in his press conference:

“He’s in contention. That’s it, what they told me. I’m not a doctor.”

Saka was named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming fixtures against Australia and Italy despite the concerns, which should also be a good sign for the Gunners.

Gabriel Martinelli misses out on a starting spot but has been named on the bench for the first time since suffering an injury in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Everton last month.

Arsenal last beat Manchester City in the Premier League back in 2015 and it looks a tall order to overturn the reigning champions this afternoon, who are bidding to reclaim top spot over Spurs.

The action kicks off at 4:30pm from North London and is destined to be a cracker.
