Brighton vs Liverpool Preview

Both Brighton and Liverpool were in Europa League action this week after suffering disappointing defeats in the league, and they meet at the Amex in one of three two o’clock kick-offs on Sunday.

The Reds came out on top against Union Saint-Gilloise, whilst Brighton fought from 2-0 down at the Velodrome to draw 2-2 and secure a vital point against Ligue 1 side Marseille in their match.

It followed on from a controversial weekend in the Premier League, where Liverpool were beaten late-on by Tottenham after receiving two red cards, as well as having Luis Diaz’s goal chalked off incorrectly despite the decision going to a VAR check.

As for the Seagulls, they were on the end of a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of fellow European side Aston Villa, and they are now without a win in their last three matches in all competitions.

Liverpool have failed to beat Brighton in any of their previous three meetings, with the latest coming in the form of a 1-0 Seagulls victory in the FA Cup earlier in the year.

The Seagulls will be without ex-Reds midfielder James Milner, who remains out with an injury until after the international break, joined on the sidelines by long-term absentees Julio Enciso and Jakub Moder.

Roberto De Zerbi also confirmed this week that Ecuadorian defender Pervis Estupinan will be out for upwards of a month due to a thigh problem.

Some good news for Brighton fans is that German all-rounder Pascal Gross is back and available for selection after his injury, having returned to the fold in midweek against Marseille where he bagged his side’s first of two goals.

Brighton Predicted Line-Up

Steele; Veltman, Webster, Dunk, Lamptey; Gross, Gilmour; March, Pedro, Mitoma; Ferguson

Liverpool Team News

As for Liverpool, they will be without both Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota through suspension after their red cards against Tottenham last week, with Cody Gakpo, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Caoimhin Kelleher also unavailable due to injury.

Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn’t fit to start against Spurs last week, but was in from the off against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League, so it’s expected that he’ll be in the line-up for the trip to the Amex.

Liverpool Predicted Line-Up

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
