Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has praised winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, who has struggled to settle in for the Blues since signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in January.

‘Unique’ Mykhaylo Mudryk

Mykhaylo Mudryk has been a disaster for Chelsea since joining in January, with the Ukrainian failing to live up to his price tag during his first year at Stamford bridge.

Despite enduring a difficult time in London so far, Mauricio Pochettino has praised his winger who is still yet to score a single goal for the Blues after 10 months at the club.

“If you ask me about Mischa [Mudryk], he’s a very talented player of course, but you need to go with him very slowly. Cultural and everything is completely different to Latin people, from different countries or part of the world.

“He’s now trying to be more open, to adapt and be more involved in every situation, not only on the field but outside also. I think he’s doing a massive effort to try to integrate himself and to understand better what it means to play like a team.”

Mudryk was just one of many signings brought in to Stamford Bridge to turn their side around after a horrific season last year, but the £87m man has failed to settle in after 23 appearances.

“He’s unique. I can’t find a player to say he is similar, I can’t remember one. It’s a good challenge for him, and it’s a good challenge for us.

“You pay big money, big change from where they came. Also it’s not about to arrive and to perform when you are young. It’s about to adapt, it’s about to help them to settle. Then the most difficult thing is to understand what these guys need to settle and to feel comfortable and to express their talent.”

Chelsea take on Fulham tonight in Monday night football, and although Mudryk is unlikely to start for the Blues, he could play a crucial role coming off the bench for Pochettino who is looking to finally kick start his side’s season.
