Newcastle vs Burnley Preview

Eddie Howe’s Magpies welcome Burnley to St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, as Vincent Kompany’s side continue their search for a first Premier League win of the campaign.

Both sides come into the clash having advanced to the Carabao Cup fourth round in midweek, with the Clarets dominantly beating Salford 4-0 on Tuesday, followed by Newcastle sending Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City crashing out of the competition with a 1-0 triumph on Wednesday.

Alexander Isak and co. are now unbeaten in four straight matches in all competitions, and recorded the biggest league win of the season thus far last weekend with an 8-0 win against Sheffield United, who were promoted last season alongside Burnley.

As for Saturday’s visitors, they boast just one point in the league thanks to a draw with Nottingham Forest just under two weeks ago, but have lost their other four matches and find themselves in a lowly 19th place in the table.

The pair last met back in 2021/22 when Burnley were demoted from the English top flight, and the Magpies ran out as winners in both of their meetings that season, with the clash at St. James’ Park ending in a 1-0 win for the hosts.
