SportsLens Head of News Lee Astley said: “The first week of the 2023/24 European campaign has come to a close and there are plenty of talking points in regards to Premier League sides. Four of England’s eight representatives secured wins, three suffered defeats and just one was held to a stalemate, so after a good start for some, and a not-so-good start for others, a price of 2/7 has been given for any Premier League side to lift any of the three major European trophies at the end of the campaign.

“The four Champions League sides arguably picked up the best results, as just one defeat was suffered between them with Manchester United losing 4-3 away from home against Bayern Munich. Manchester City and Arsenal recorded victories, whilst Newcastle picked up a vital point at the San Siro against AC Milan, and after these results – it’s been rated at evens for any of the four Premier League teams to lift Europe’s most coveted trophy.

“Something that doesn’t look as likely following the culmination of the first gameweek though, is that every English side advances to the knockout stages. Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United losing at the Allianz Arena has put a dampener on the Premier League results, and so, a price of 13/8 has been given for all four of England’s representatives to make it past the group stages.

“Brighton’s debut in Europe and Aston Villa’s return after 13-years didn’t end how the pair had hoped, with both suffering defeats in the Europa League and the Conference League. After their disappointing results, a combined price of 8/1 has been handed for the duo to be knocked out of their respective competitions in the group stages.”
