The Puskas Goal Award 2023 nominations are in and Brighton fans will be happy to see Julio Enciso’s strike against Man City nominated. It will be a goal that will go down in the club’s history as it ensured them European football. 

Enciso, 19, is one of the youngest players to receive a Puskas goal nomination. Daniel Zsori is the youngest to win it at just 18 years of age for a bicycle-kick on his professional debut. He outranked Neymar who was the youngest to win it at 19.

Australia’s Sam Kerr is amongst the list of 11 nominees for her stunning solo goal against England in the semi-final of the World Cup. There are two other goals from the recent Women’s World Cup. Beatriz Zaneratto and Linda Caicedo are the other two nominated for outrageous goals. 

Brazil’s Zaneratto provided the finishing touch for a wonderful team goal against Panama and Caicedo curled in for Colombia against Germany.

The favourites on the list come from both Nuno Santos of Sporting Lisbon and Guilherme Miranda of Botafogo. Santos provided an ridiculous rabona finish whilst Miranda produced a remarkable overhead kick from outside the penalty area.

Other goals came from the likes of South Korea Under-20 international Kang Seong-jin who dribbled past three players and then produced several step-overs before scoring with a terrific 20-yard finish against Jordan. Kazakhstan’s Askhat Tagybergenand and Brian Lozano of Mexican club Atlas both found the target with sensational long-range strikes to also be included in the vote.

The nominees also include a couple of goals from the MLS. Argentinian Alvaro Barreal who struck a thunderous volley from an out-swinging corner, while UD Ibiza’s Ivan Morante scored in similar circumstances – but first controlled the ball past a defender before guiding it into the top corner.
