Arsenal face Tottenham at the Emirates on Sunday in the 208th North London derby. It’s a game that both teams will be heading into in top form and SportsLens have decided to look back at some of the north Londoners most iconic meetings.
Tottenham 2-2 Arsenal – Premier League, White Hart Lane, 25th April 2004
There’s nothing worse than having your rivals lift the title in your own ground but there’s nothing also better than winning the title in your rival’s stadium.
Of course this was Arsenal’s famous Invincible season and they knew just a singular point would clinch them the title and they got the job done. Even though they were two up through goals from Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires, Robbie Keane and Jamie Redknapp scored to make the last minutes some nervy ones for Wenger’s men.
Arsenal 4-4 Tottenham – Premier League, Emirates stadium, 28th October 2008
Arsenal were 4-2 up in the 88th minute and they won’t want the story of this repeating. Harry Redknapp’s men snatched a point late on through goals from Jermaine Jenas and Aaron Lennon. David Bentley also scored a screamer from 40 yards. William Gallas, Robin Van Persie, Mikael Silvestre and Emmanuel Adebayor scored for Arsenal
Arsenal 4-2 Tottenham – Premier League, Emirates Stadium, 3rd December 2018
Perhaps there is some recency bias taking place here but this NLD was a cracker. It had tension, fights and a lot of goals.
Tottenham were 2-1 up at half-time after Eric Dier and Harry Kane cancelled out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s early penalty. He equalised for Arsenal in the second half before Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira finished the job. Jan Vertonghen was sent off late on for the visitors.
Tottenham 4 – 5 Arsenal – Premier League, White Hart Lane, 13th November 2004
This was the campaign following the Invincible season for Arsenal and Spurs were out for revenge. They couldn’t get it though as the highest scoring North London derby ended in three points for Arsenal.
Tottenham did lead through Noureddine Naybet but Thierry Henry equalised for Arsenal just before half-time.
Lauren and Patrick Vieira then made it 3-1 in the second half, although Spurs’ Jermain Defoe brought it reduced the deficit to just the one goal, as he scored basically from the kick-off.
Freddie Ljungberg scored Arsenal’s fourth, while Ledley King for Spurs made it 4-3 with just over 15 minutes to play.
Robert Pires put the game to bed in the 80th minute to make it 5-3, but not before Frederic Kanoute pulled one back for Spurs in the 88th minute.
Fingers crossed for another cracker on Sunday. The game is live at 4:30pm on Sky Sports.
