Arsenal’s odds of winning the Premier League title have shortened after the Gunners finally broke their winless streak at Goodison Park with a narrow triumph over relegation candidates Everton on Super Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal came into Sunday’s clash against Everton with an unwanted record of having failed to win at Goodison in their last five matches there, so the Spanish boss was desperate to end the curse ahead of the clash.

For much of the game, it looked as if the record would remain in-tact, after Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring early in the first-half, only for it to be disallowed, and then for him to be forced off through injury just minutes later.

In his place came on Leandro Trossard, who sparked life into the Gunners side, but to no avail in the first period as the teams headed into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.

The aforementioned Trossard was the man who handed Arteta’s men the lead in the second-half, converting with a lovely first time finish after some excellent link-up play between Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Everton fought until the very last moment, but Arsenal were able to hold on to finally taste victory at Goodison for the first time in a long time, propelling them back into the Premier League top four, whilst maintaining their unbeaten start to the season in the league.

Up next for the Gunners is their long-awaited return to the UEFA Champions League, when they take on PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates on Wednesday evening.
