Mikel Arteta Explains Why Aaron Ramsdale Has Been Dropped For David Raya

The big news from the Arsenal team news is the news that Aaron Ramsdale has been dropped for David Raya.

Raya’s starting the game today for Arsenal with England goalkeeper Ramsdale on the bench. It’s a decision that has taken many by surprise as Ramsdale has been in fine form this season.

On his decision, he said:

“I think I mentioned it that we wanted to build a squad with two quality players in each position, with different characteristics, and we have got that now.

“And to maximise that they have to play games, and we have a lot of things coming up now. And we have the same with other players we have rotated and there will be a lot of game-time in the next few weeks.”

Raya impressed last season with Brentford and his future was a talking point over the summer. He opted to join Arsenal and battle it out with Ramsdale for the starting spot.

With the Champions League on the horizon, having two goalkeepers of good quality will be a good thing for Arsenal. They face PSV in their opening group game this week.
