Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo is reportedly set to undergo a Liverpool medical today ahead of his move from Stuttgart, which could rise to just over £21million with bonuses.

After failing to secure the signings of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, Liverpool look to be nearing a move for Stuttgart’s Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo.

News of the Reds’ interest in Endo broke late on Wednesday evening, coming as a surprise to many, whilst his name will be an unfamiliar one to most Premier League fans.

Endo’s switch looks to be progressing very quickly though, as Sky Germany are reporting that he has been given permission to undergo his medical at Anfield today.

Their report also states that some details still need to be ironed out between both clubs, and that the deal could rise to just over £21million with bonuses.

Stuttgart reportedly wanted to extend Endo’s contract at the club as it was due to expire next summer, however it looks as if they will no longer have the opportunity to.

The 30-year-old is the Bundesliga club’s current club captain after joining in 2019, initially on loan, before making the permanent switch in 2020.

After helping them to promotion in his first season with the club, Endo has made a total of 99 appearances in the German top flight, and has scored on 12 occasions.

He is also a full Japanese international, having made 50 appearances for his country, and appeared in all four of their matches at the most recent World Cup in Qatar.
