Spurs vs Manchester United Betting Tip 1: Draw @ 5/2

Gameweek 1 was an interesting ordeal for both sets of supporters heading into Saturday’s clash in north London. Manchester United scraped past Wolves thanks to Raphael Varane’s second half winner, whilst Spurs earned a hard-fought point in a 2-2 draw at Brentford.

United were far from convincing in their season opener and will count themselves lucky to have come away with three points. Wolves failed to capitalise on 2.35 xG compared to the Red Devils’ 2.21 and Erik ten Hag’s side looked both unprepared and unfit.

Stray passes became a theme of the game for the hosts and they lacked tempo throughout. Andre Onana made his Old Trafford debut and a refereeing mistake saved the 27-year-old’s blushes after clattering into Sasa Kalajdzic inside the area in stoppage time, with VAR somehow denying Wolves a blatant penalty.

Brentford are well known as a tough, gritty and resilient outfit and they put Spurs through their paces in Ange Postecoglou’s first professional game in charge. Cristian Romero handed the visitors an early lead before Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa turned the fixture on its head for the Bees.

Emerson Royal’s equaliser in the depths of first half stoppage time was the final goal of the game and whilst there were some bright spots with new number ten James Maddison bagging two assists, Spurs didn’t look awfully threatening.

Skipper Heung-min Son looks a shadow of the player he was two seasons ago and Spurs will be doing well to make it into the top six this season after losing Harry Kane. United are a much better side on paper but Monday night’s display was a cause for concern.

Spurs have the home advantage and the crowd will certainly look to give ‘Big Ange’ a warm welcome which could be a decisive factor in the encounter. We can see a similar repeat of the last time the pair met in the capital, playing out a 2-2 draw in April after United threw a two goal lead.

Spurs vs Manchester United Betting Tip 2: Bruno Fernandes To Be Booked @ 2/1

Bruno Fernandes found himself in the referee’s book six times throughout the last Premier League campaign and in a game which is set to fiery and played at a high tempo, the hot-headed Portuguese maestro is primed for a card.

He kept himself out of trouble in United’s opening fixture but easily dominated the midfield battle against Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes. He should face more of a challenge in that area up against Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp behind the tricky James Maddison.

The 28-year-old is yet to be booked in six career appearances against Spurs but this encounter looks to be his best chance yet.
