Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Manchester City star, Aymeric Laporte, following the recent injury to summer signing, Jurrien Timber.

The Gunners have been dealt a huge blow following their opening day victory over Nottingham Forest, as Dutch defender Jurrien Timber faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Mikel Arteta’s side are yet to confirm the exact length of injury, however, the club released a statement to give an update:

The statement read: “Jurrien will undergo a further detailed assessment and review with a consultant in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury, in order to determine the next steps. A further update will be provided in due course.”

With this said, Arteta is now on the hunt for defensive options to fill the hole that has been created and are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City defender, Aymeric Laporte.

The Arsenal boss has worked with the Spaniard previously during his time at Manchester City and is said to be a huge fan of the former La Liga star.

Manchester City shocked the footballing world, as the blue side of Manchester completed the treble and won the Champions League final against Inter Milan – clinching the club’s first European trophy.

Despite this historic achievement, Laporte is still set to depart in the coming weeks following a hugely successful tenure in England.

The Spain international has made 179 appearances under Pep Guardiola, contributing to 16 goals from a central defensive position.

During his time in England, Laporte has won five Premier League titles, a Champions League, two FA Cups and four Carabao Cup trophies – a truly astonishing career.

Juventus had reportedly been interested in signing the 29-year-old defender, however, after a recent exclusion from Europe the deal now seems unlikely and Arsenal are in pole position to sign the Spaniard.
