It has been just over 24 hours since Harry Kane announced his departure from Tottenham and Spurs felt their former captain’s absence on Sunday, as they were held to a point against Brentford.

The game got off to a quick start on Sunday afternoon, with Tottenham taking the lead through a Cristian Romero header just after the tenth minute.

New signing James Maddison whipped in a dangerous free kick towards the Argentine defender, who smashed the ball past Mark Flekken from close range to give Spurs the lead.

Romero was forced to leave the pitch straight after his goal, as the centre back took a heavy knock to his head before taking the lead, with Ange Postecoglou making the decision to substitute the 25-year-old as a precaution.

Heung Min Son has taken over from Harry Kane as Tottenham captain this season and he got off to a nightmare start with the armband, giving away a soft penalty just before half an hour had been played.

Taking Ivan Toney’s place as penalty taker this season will be Bryan Mbuemo, who made no mistake from the spot to level for the Bees midway through the first half.

Brentford fired again just ten minutes later, as Yoane Wissa netted his first of the season with a deflected strike in the box causing confusion for debutant Guglielmo Vicario in goal.

It was Tottenham who scored the fourth of the game, with Emerson Royal catching a sweet volley deep into added time to provide Maddison with a second assist of the season and an equaliser for the visitors.

The second half was a very cagey affair, with neither side able to find the back of the net for a winning goal. With the points shared on opening weekend, Tottenham are now 4/1 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
